Nickelodeon fans, listen up! Two of our favorite characters from “iCarly” and “Victorious” are about to team up. Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy have been cast in a brand new Nickelodeon pilot. But don’t worry: Just because the actresses are moving on to a new project doesn’t mean they’re leaving the roles that made them famous behind. The show is tentatively titled ‘Sam & Cat,’ co-starring Jennette’s “iCarly” character Sam Puckett and Ariana’s “Victorious” character Cat Valentine.
The story will follow the girls when they move in together as roommates and start a babysitting business to rake in some extra cash. You know the Nick routine — lots of crazy hijinks ensue, not to mention an awesome supporting cast.
The co-stars have nearly 4 million Twitter followers between the two of them, so it’s no surprise the news began trending worldwide yesterday. Click through the slideshow below for the most intense reactions to the news — including tweets from Ariana, Jennette, and the show’s creator Dan Schneider.
‘iCarly’ may be coming to end this November, but Sam Puckett (played by Jennette McCurdy) will live on! Jennette will be getting her own spinoff Nickelodeon show that starts shooting in just a few weeks. And that’s not all: Jennette’s new show will costar another famous face — Ariana Grande’s ‘Victorious’ character Cat Valentine!
Tentatively called ‘Sam & Cat’, the plot will center on Sam and Cat become roommates and start a babysitting business.
When news broke on Thursday, Ariana and Jennette both Tweeted “#SOEXCITED.” The girls are super-close friends in real life, so we can’t wait to see all the fun energy they bring to their crossover show.
Also, ‘iCarly’ star Noah Munck is reportedly getting his own Nick show called ‘Gibby’ in which he winds up as a mentor to several offbeat middle-school students.
Although iCarly will soon air its final episode, you may not have to bid farewell to the entire gang. EW has learned that Nickelodeon has ordered spin-off pilots for Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) and Gibby Gibson (Noah Munck) from iCarly creator/executive producer Dan Schneider. Sam’s prospective show also would serve a spin-off vehicle for Cat Valentine (Ariana Grande), a popular character from Schneider’s other Nick comedy, Victorious.
In the tentatively titled Sam & Cat, sassy Sam (McCurdy) and eccentric Cat (Grande,) buddy up as roommates and start a babysitting business to fund their adventures. Meanwhile, in Gibby (which is also a working title), zany Gibby (Munck) gets a gig at a recreational center where he winds up as a mentor to four offbeat middle-school students.
Both pilots are slated to begin production this summer.
Schneider has enjoyed a long association with Nickelodeon, having created and executive produced Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, and The Amanda Show. He also served as executive producer of Kenan & Kel and All That.
iCarly will conclude its five-season run in November. Meanwhile, Victorious, which will continue its third season this fall, is awaiting word on a fourth season pickup. It is unclear at this time exactly what kind of presence Grande would have on a potential fourth season of Victorious if Sam & Cat receives a series order.
Congratulations Ariana and Jennette! I cannot wait to be able to add “Sam & Cat” as a new project under the sidebar. This sounds like a spectacular hit show in the working. Hopefully, new details on this upcoming show will be released soon. Until then, I’ll keep an eye out for more!
